DESCRIPTION
The story of the construction of a replica of this famous early English steam locomotive type which superseded Stephenson’s Rocket roughly in the 1830s. Planet class locomotives pulled passenger trains from Liverpool to Manchester as the first, true inter-city rail service. After 150 years the Friends of the Museum [of Science and Industry] decided to build a replica. This is the full story of that event, from design and drawings to manufacture to the initial test run at Liverpool Road Station. Produced in the UK by Railfilms Limited and distributed in the USA by Goodheart Productions.
