NAME
The Power of the Milwaukee Road

DESCRIPTION
When the American Locomotive Company (Alco) put together it's advertising campaign for 1944, the Milwaukee Road class S3 4-8-4's were among the featured locomotives. Touted as the "last word" in steam locomotive development, they were very modern locomotives and were among the best that Alco ever built. Now, more than 50 years later (and some 40 years after the 261 was retired), S3 No. 261 is showing a new generation what the "last word" in steam was all about. This video highlights the year-and-a-half rebuild, shows you her first movements under steam, and then covers all eight days of her initial runs in 1993, the year of her re-birth. This video's "big finish" shows you the 261 crossing the huge St. Croix River Bridge from both ground and aerial views.

Running time 56 minutes
